Gig Review... Bloc Party @ The Garage, Glasgow, 19th June 2012

There was a sense of disappointment when the band announced they were going on hiatus, with a few hints to when they would be returning the band finally played their first show in 30 months. After waiting what seemed forever and a day I was finally allowed into the venue. They opened up with two new songs from the eagerly anticipated fourth album 'Four'. The two songs were called '3x3' and 'So He Begins To Lie', they were a lot heavier than previous songs, however they still managed to captive me and the crowd from the first stoke of the guitar.

They played 'and oldie' according to Kele, this turned out to be 'Mercury', this was greeted by cheering from the fans yet Kele didn't dive into the crowd as he has done on previous tours, the song seemed to have a different outro with a slightly dub-steppy vibe going on it. 'Hunting For Witches' then followed and the crowd started to get rowdy with crowd surfers galore, but you could see the band on stage enjoying every moment of it. 'Real Talk' and 'Octopus' were two more new songs played, one was without Kele behind a guitar yet he was roaming around the front and making the fans go mental with his presence.

The fan favourites followed with 'Song For Clay' and 'Banquet' and then they delved back into new songs, 'Day Four' and 'Team A' were both different from the first few new songs, yet still just as brilliant as the others. Three songs from pre-Four were in a row, fan favourite 'This Modern Love' and 'Helicopter' went out to a see of happy faces, but not before they belted out a new rendition of 'One More Chance'.

They then went off the stage but not without the crowd yelling for more. They played their last new song 'Truth' which was well received by me, and I personally think it was the best new one of the night. The night was ended with 'Ares', 'Like Eating Glass' and 'Flux', but the last song had a cover of Rhianna before it. All in all I am looking forward to the new album!
