Berlin-based act DA//TE has recently dropped their new single, "Cut the wire", and since it had it's release, it's worked its way around our office like an earworm. The fact that this is a debut release is actually rather astonishing, and with this now out, it sounds like the bar is going to be set high for their forthcoming singles.
the track blends punk, emo, and indie-rock into a fresh, genre-hopping adrenaline rush.
The track opens up with a jangly sound that takes me back to the mid-2000s, but once the vocals come in, I get big KennyHoopla vibes. "Cut the wire" is punk, part emo and part indie-rock, all seemingly in perfect quantities, ensuring that fans of all of those genres will easily be able to sink into the track with ease.
I do like pacing of it all and the main guitar sounds as this also gave me subtle Interpol and Bloc Party tones, but all the while keeping it grounded and fresh. DA//TE may just be one of the most exciting bands to emerge out of Germany this year, so do keep a hot eye on them.
