EP Review... Coastal Cities - Abandon Ship EP

Coastal Cities début EP review, Coastal Cities are from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Their genre could be described as Indie-Rock, Math-Rock or Post-Punk.

Abaondon Ship:
I love 'Abandon Ship' straight from the off, twitching guitars, furious drumming, and the classic synth. Around the 2 minute mark the track peaks, kind of the quiet before the storm, with then another furious instrument killing before the track slowly ends.

Other tracks I have been sent is 'Clockworks' that actually does sound like a Foals demo for Antidotes that, even the vocals does sound very much like Yannis! A bit of the Foals in them really shows here, if I had to put a genre onto it it would be "Indie-Foals" because they seem to take lyrics from "Hummer" and guitar riffs from it too. That's not a bad thing in anyway! It shows they can perform a hard song, and even if it is a half cover they have pulled it off brilliantly!

Bins Are For Bombs:
The Foals references continue with the song 'Bins Are For Bombs', this, much like the past two tracks have a fast paced attitude about it and you can hear all of the members playing their instruments to the extreme! Starts off with a bass bulging and synths, then comes in the guitars played ever so lightly. They just can't play like that, so they start off the track into their style that has become a favourite of mine. I don't care what anyone thinks. It's better to sound like a brilliant artist than to try something different and sound terrible.

No Room For Heroes:
The lighter track of the EP, really does end the EP in a nice way. There are elements from all of the tracks in this song. It has the twitching guitars, furious drumming, and the classic synth. It continues. A lovely way to end the EP. They have the perfect balance of Foals and attitude, just wonderful!
