Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch (right) has passed away at the age of 47, according to online reports today (May 4). According to US website TMZ, Yauch's death was first reported by hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com, and has since been verified by people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.
The band delayed the release of Hot Sauce Committee Pt 2 while he was treated - the album eventually came out last year. Yauch was a co-founder of the Beastie Boys alongside Mike 'Mike D' Diamond and Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horowitz in 1979, but didn't break through until 1986's 'Licensed to Ill'. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
