Introducing... Ruby and the Vines

The first time I heard Ruby and the Vines was when my brother forced his headphones onto my ears after he’d stumbled across them playing a gig at CafĂ© 1001 in Shoreditch. I listened to Red Storm and instantly fell in love with the lead singer’s voice. She is called Benisa Bonner, and she plays bass alongside Greg Saunders on guitar and Ben Assiter on drums.

Ruby and the Vines is a jazzy London-based trio with an infectious looseness about them and an inexplicable allure. They released their first EP in 2011 named after their best track yet Red Storm, and have released one track in 2013. In an interview by Musika Bonner described the trio as “Jazz, rock, funk, afro-beat, reggae, pop, hip-hop, Congolese music… We could go on.” - Their potential is astounding and with a good producer I am positive they could create an immensely layered and soulful record we’d all be bopping along to in bedrooms all around the country.
