Matthew Houck fronts this week’s track of the week as the sole member of Athens Georgia folk group Phosphorescent. Their track “A charm / A Blade” of their 2013 album “Muchacho” offers a supreme example of “doin’ it right” in the modern folk scene.
Much like their contemporaries (Fleet Foxes, Iron and Wine etc…), Phosphorescent offers hymnal-esque melodies that quickly reveal their Athens roots. With its timely and sing-song-y chorus, “A Charm / A blade” will have you joining your local choir in hopes of replicating Houck’s illuminating tonality.
