Sounds of 2014 - #9 - As Elephants Are

2013 has been the making of As Elephants Are. In the space of a year they’ve come on leaps and bounds, showing more maturity and confidence and dare I say it, an almost polished sound. The second half of the year has been kind to them; deservedly earning a spot on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds Festival, followed up by their single, ‘Crystal’, becoming one of Zane Lowe’s hottest records, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next. Sound wise, think of Bombay Bicycle Club or The Maccabees.

Whilst most songs are mellow and allow for singer Ben Stratford’s quavering vocals to take enter stage, others are more upbeat, such as ‘Crystal’, a bright and energetic tune that will stay ringing in your ears. In terms of their live shows, they may not be the most active band on stage but they ooze professionalism in all they do. Their performances capture the audience and début single, ‘War Cry’, will give you shudders as it almost blows the rest of their set out of the water.

If 2014 continues the way 2013 has finished, there’ll be plenty of chances to see this band, so make sure you do, you won’t regret it.
