On the 3/4/5th November this year Community
Festival will be taking over East London- 11 venues in Hoxton and Shoreditch
provide the backdrop for some of the best new artists according to the UK’s
most reliable tastemakers.
‘Seasoned veterans’, in underground terms, like The Magic
Gang and Nothing But Thieves, feature, along with hyped newcomers like The
Japanese House or Rat Boy. Lianne La Havas is invited along by Latitude
Festival, Alex Vargas by BBC Introducing, Clean Cut Kid by DIY Mag and Day Wave
by London In Stereo. Both the names of the above acts and the profiles curating
the stages are enough to get any self-respecting new music aficionado giddy,
and that only scratches the surface of what’s on offer. Alongside the
aforementioned match-ups, and plenty more besides, there are also ‘In the
Community’ shows which focus on giving a platform for the most interesting
local artists, and venues for that matter, to thrive.
Over 3 days Community London aims to bring an atmosphere to
a corner of the capital that has no doubt been synonymous with counter-cultural
blossoming, but has perhaps lost some of it’s ‘edge’ in recent times. The sheer
quality of the line-ups and credibility of those involved in this project mean
that if you share even a passing interest in emerging music, you really ought
to be heading east on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.
