[SOUNDS OF 2018] - #2 - OUTLYA

2017 saw a meteoric rise from nowhere for the trio of OUTLYA, and from the word go they were a force to be reckoned with. So if you like your music to sound big and bold with lots of atmosphere? Well OUTLYA's track "Heaven" would be right up your street! They're a trio originating from East Anglia and have this stunning track for your ears, think of them in the same regards as Eliza and the Bear, Mumford and Sons and Dangy.

With "Heaven" being released back in the summer - via Harbour Masters their imprint label - this was a stroke of genius as it found it's way onto BBC Radio 1 and multiple Spotify playlists as well as Apple Music Stations.

Towards the end of the year the outfit released their EP "Volcano", which was warmly received by fans and critics alike with the track "Howl" showcasing their potential. Back when we reviewed it we said - "Howl", is yet another brilliant indie-pop anthem laden with uplifing melodies, brilliantly used instrumentation. The track - which is out now - shows the ambition that they posses, with every song catchy as the last I am sure that they'll be on everyone's lips within no-time! - and how were we right, the band are heading into the next year with so much optimism, and who can blame them!

Speaking about the new single, the band explain that " ... "Howl" is a song about communication in the modern age. The feeling of euphoria when you hear a loved one's voice down a distorted phone line and the transportive effect it can have on you from miles away. We ended up demoing the song 4 or 5 times, and the final version is an amalgamation of all of them. In tandem with our wonderful producer Dan, we took what we thought were the best bits from each demo and pieced the song together, based around the 4/4 dance beat and a classic sounding upright piano. As a band we always try and combine the natural sounds of live instruments, like piano, guitar, bass and drums, with synthetic sounds seeping in, which in this song works especially well as a metaphor for human interaction through technology."

There is a sense of Phoenix, Weezer, come Coldplay with some incredible hooks here tinted with some Surf-esque fuzzed out guitars. To sum it all up OUTLYA are simply just a brilliant new act with a stunning set of songs that are just ready for the big time, be sure to keep a VERY close eye on them in 2018!
