JW Paris drop video for "Darker Side of Paradise"

JW Paris "We want to play as many live shows as we can in 2018 and going into 2019 with more fans, new songs and radio play"

JW PARIS are a three piece rock band from London who could be about to take the underground guitar scene by storm. Having recently supported the likes of The Vultures, The Amazons and Yonaka, the trio has released a new track called Darker Side of Paradise and a brand new video.

Building on the band’s influences ranging from the likes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Dandy Warhols, Jack White, The Rolling Stones, Blur and Suede the band’s music combines a full of Anglo American alt rock swagger with a strong vocal delivery and memorable harmonies. This is a band who could be writing the nation’s next rock anthem.

Taking the listener on some rollercoaster of a ride with lyrics touching on the addictive aspects of hedonism and the escapism some people chase through fame and celebrity culture, JW Paris (Aaron Forde, Josh Cronin and Daniel Collins) clearly have some messages and tunes they are keen to get across to people.

Curious to learn more about the new track and what the band are all about, It’s All Indie caught up with the band’s frontman Aaron Forde and we asked him to give us a brief.

"Darker Side of Paradise is about a little place that is now closed called Fortress Studios. Essentially it was the darker side of paradise, an adult’s playground, a rehearsal space, a bar that never shut. You could go there for a quick drink on Friday see waves of weird and wonderful characters drift in an out then end up leaving Sunday afternoon, Unsure of your own self. So this song is a thank you and a sad goodbye to place we were happy to be a part of once.”

“We shot the video at YouTube Studios where we have flipped the original idea of the birth of this song and created a satire of the everyday norm that we deem to be a darker side of paradise. Making a mockery of all that is making our reality TV loving generation numb.”

You worked with Hugo Nicholson and John Davis, can you describe what you feel they brought to the process?

We shot the video at YouTube Studios where we have flipped the original idea of the birth of this song and created a satire of the everyday norm that we deem to be a darker side of paradise. Making a mockery of all that is making our reality TV loving generation numb.”

“Having Hugo Nicholson and John Davis involved on all three tracks has taken our sound to the next level. Both Hugo and John have worked with some of our favourite artists like Royal Blood, Placebo, Primal Scream, Radiohead and Foals, so it has been pretty exciting to have them interested in working with us.”

“They both have really captured our grit and energy on record as we like to create in our live shows and we have found in the past this is one the hardest things to do. With Hugo really helping us to get our gritty sound on record with John then really pushing the sound even bigger through the mastering. A genius due to have on our side. We got them to work with us through the team at Blaggers Records who are currently helping us release our singles and help us get to the next level.”

Are you happy about the response you have been getting from the music press so far?

“Awareness of us as a band is really starting to build and have a snowball effect, a lot of this is due to the support of magazines like Some Might Say, Gigslutz, Live Circuit and social media keeping our content up to date and a massive part of it is going out to support promoters’ nights and bands we have become friends with along the way. The buzz around us means a lot and we love being a part of this live music community.”

Rapture has been used by a sync company, is this something you are hoping to get more of?

“Rapture got picked up out of the blue by a sync publishing company and it took off from there, originally we were supposed to be the lead track for the whole Sky re-brand but found out this didn’t happen. Although, we got featured on a range of Football highlights, it is not enough to retire yet."

Tell us more about your working relationship with Blaggers Records

“We currently have Blaggers Records helping us out. They are a new independent label dedicated to releasing new bands with cool sounds who play loud rock ‘n’roll. A lot of it is about blagging your way through, hence the name. The label has helped us out a lot with releases. So a massive thanks goes out to them.”

The Darker Side of Paradise will be followed by another two tracks due for release later this year Radio and Rapture.

Radio has a slightly more pop oriented feel and probably brings the band closer towards their 90s Britpop influences. It includes a thought provoking lyric.

‘I can’t stand what I hear on the radio, I just want what I put on my stereo’

This is clearly a direct statement from the band, it could cause some controversy but then isn’t that what rock ‘n’ roll is supposed to be all about?

“Radio is about all the fodder you find on TV and the radio these days. Bombarded with easy cheesy songs with little substance or character. When all we want is to listen to the good stuff. Music with passion, dirty guitars and a story to tell.”

“Rapture is about not caring. Not being scared of the inevitable and taking risks to get where you want to go. Nobody gets anywhere sitting in their comfort zone.”

Tell us about the future aspirations of JW Paris?

“We want to play as many live shows as we can in 2018 in as many places as possible going into 2019 with more fans, new songs, radio play and maybe a new hair cut? Some of the usual hopes and dreams for an upcoming band.”

“We still got some gigs coming up. We are headlining a gig in Paris on the 31st August with our good pals The Scary Lemons supporting us. We have a Bristol show to announce soon which we will on the bill with a touring band. We have also got a few dates booked in recording so keep your ears pealed.”
