"Looking back, I realize I was writing from my interpretation of the perspective of the other person in that relationship, a character who views problems in their relationship as sourced from how the other person acts with them or treats them. Giving a voice to that selfish side makes a reality out of what acting like that looks like and wisens you up when you sense you're headed in that direction."
