Australian singer/producer Daniel Joshua has just released his chilling new single "Hivemind", which is his second-ever following the debut single from 2019, "Heads Up Thumbs Down". Daniel has had a lot of love from the likes of Triple J and Rinse FM, with his Spotify stats growing with every release, and I can really hear why.
From what we can hear if you're a fan of his it sounds like "Hivemind" was well worth the wait, from the outset of the piece we've got some hushed out tones like the one Chet Faker has crossed with Ben Howard's tender high pitches - but as you'll soon find out by the end of the song, he is very comparable more towards the Thom Yorke end of the spectrum.
It's haunting, ambient, and borderline psychedelic, it's one of those tracks you can close your eyes to and get lost in.
"Hivemind" is literally laced with dreamy guitar tones, left, right, and center. The ambient and almost haunting backing track has lots of soaring synths and thick (but delicate) basslines elevating the track into the upper atmosphere. Although coming to think of it, this track is beyond that, it's closer to that of the Moon than Earth it's so dreamy.
Daniel has multiple layers of vocals draped all over the track, that are simply enriched with his almost kaleidoscopic and hypnotising guitar hooks. There are also some skitty drum kicks and beats that you'd find in Radiohead's latest work which pushes it into almost Psychadelic territories. It's haunting, ambient, and borderline psychedelic, it's one of those tracks you can close your eyes to and get lost in.
