London singer-songwriter Ettie has this week revealed her new track "Manic Pixie Dream Girl", which is lifted from her highly anticipated debut EP. The single is the first of the year and follows on from a solid 2020 campaign that saw her release a trio of songs, including the punk-charged track "softboi".
Speaking about the song Ettie says - "It is about the romanticisation of women's mental health in the media. This 'manic pixie dream girl' character dreamt up by men alone in writing rooms, of the troubled, beautiful girl who is only there to help with the male main character's personal growth. The Ramona Flowers, Effy Stonem-type character."
The new effort might be her best yet, especially considering it's promoting her debut EP. The alt-pop vibesre pretty damn strong here, with her vocals sounding like Pale Waves' very own Heather Baron-Gracie. The taste of pop-punk is constantly prominent in the track, with the guitars offering the listener some insight into her influences - such as Paramore and Panic! at the Disco.
If you're looking for a powerful new singer-songwriter who dabbles into the pop-punk genre then Ettie is the one for you. Pardon me while we go and play her discography on repeat!
