London singer-songwriter Lauren Walton last week revealed her stunning debut single, "Hardwired". As soon as you click play you enter Lauren's world of dark and atmospheric pop, it sounds like she has been hugely influenced here by the likes of Lorde and Florence + The Machine.
Musically "Hardwired" reminds me of London Grammar mixed in with Jaymes Young's latest work, it's atmospheric, dark and expansive. Big drum notes play chase with the thick synths that act as the bassline, the licks of the piano are also a nice tough giving the single some earthiness - and also the piano also gives Lauren a way to make this track into an 'acoustic' version with just her vocals as the other instrument (now that would be stunning).
What is stunning is the way Lauren's debut single wins over the listener, you'll be hard-pressed to find a debut single released last week that hits as hard as this.
