Stoke-on-Trent's Camens have recently dropped their new anthem, "Illustrator", and to be honest it looks like they're using the hype from their previous single "Poltergeist" - and why not? Their previous tine saw them get playlisted by literally handfuls of curators on Spotify with backing from Amazing Radio and XS Manchester also picking them up amongst over 50 others all over the world.
"Illustrator" has a lot to live up to with the previous singles being arguably one of their biggest tunes to date, however, it manages once again to showcase their talents and Scott's songwriting prowess.
The sound of the late 2000's indie-rock scene is really strong here from the off, with the guitar tones reminding me of The Maccabees and The Kooks especially. It's a proper anthem with a chorus that can easily be sung back by fans at every live show, "Illustrator" has a lot to live up to with the previous singles being arguably one of their biggest tunes to date, however, it manages once again to showcase their talents and Scott's songwriting prowess.
Speaking about the song Scottt (vocalist) mentions - "I stumbled across the chorus almost by accident, then the verses took shape over a few weeks in isolation during the first lockdown. I have a big architect drawing table, with a big flip chart pad on it. Whenever I get an idea, it goes on the board. Some songs come together in five minutes; others are an amalgamation of ideas over a longer period. This was one of those"
Camens once again are showing everyone what they're all about, and if you'd like to hear their new tunes before anyone else be sure top check out their Patreon - where you can be a part of their 'secret' fan-page where they share new tunes as fresh as they come.
