San Francisco-based Harlow's Monkeys today released their new single (it's a mouthful) "you don't have to change if you don't want to". The song, the quartet's first since "Pleasure" debuted back in September 2022, shows the group making significant progress in terms of sound.
"you don't have to change if you don't want to" is a pretty brilliant piece of indie-rock from a band that is continually improving.
Opening up is a charming guitar that any brit-pop fan would fan head over heels for, and with a spritely tinkling of piano added for good measure, we're straddling into the realms of Coldplay's early work here. Although the vocal hooks and fun guitars helped me over the line and become a fan, the bass in particular really grabbed my attention and made me change from just a listener to a fan.
