North Dakota-based Moon Worm has earlier this month shared their nostalgic new single, "Not Poor Just Broke". The single comes off the back of a great 2023 campaign with saw them release a quartet of singles, and this song is a great launchpad for continuing on with the hype.
New-wave collides with psych-pop, we love it.
Moon Worm is the project of singer-songwriter/producer Jack Shaefer and speaking about the track he mentions - " ... "Not Poor Just Broke" tells a tale of individuals who, despite facing financial limitations, are driven by an insatiable desire to live life to the fullest."
The vocals on the track are perfectly hazy, with lots of dreamy hooks that any Tame Impala fan can get into within a heartbeat. The guitars on this remind me a lot of the 1980s new-wave scene, mainly The Smiths but with a slight Psychadelic flavour to it. The fact that there are some psych-pop elements here really brings it to life, and when you combine it with Jack's vocals it becomes something much more.
