At the forefront of the scene in their hometown of Gorey in Ireland is Foot Squeaker, and not too long ago saw the trio release their strong new cut, "Friends Like These".
Speaking about the new cut Diarmuid Comerford (Lead Singer/Guitarist) says - "The idea for 'Friends Like These' came about from a conversation with my 15 yr old son - ‘You can't just go up to people, say hey, and make friends. It's much more complex due to social media status and cliques’. I feel this sentiment is echoed in similar challenges and anxieties around forming new friendships as you go through life"
"Friends Like These" brings back nostalgic vibes for me, long live the guitar trio!
The new single is just their second since 2020, but it sounds so damn wholesome for me as it's laced with plenty of swirling guitar and a sound that reminds me of the early 2010's when this sound was on a resurgence.
Vocally it's strong with the highlights coming during the chorus, and this for me is when the track is at it's peak with those warm guitars, strong bass and crisp drums acting almost as a spine for the vocals to be laid upon. The delightful quick bursts of guitar in the breakdown before the chorus is a genius addition, but the track really comes to life in the midway point where it's more like Biffy Clyro's sound!
