Coming out of Torquay in Australia is the trio of The Burbs, and they've recently shared their retro new tune, "Ladder To The Moon".
The new track is officially their first proper single, as it comes after the trio dropped their demo album earlier in the year. A pretty good idea if you ask me as when a band first drops their debut single fans are left with a wilderness of nothing, but at least this time round new fans can delve into 12 tracks of rough cuts, demos and more.
... peak Britpop with harmonising vocals that scream The Beatles
"Ladder To The Moon" is one of the tracks that got the demo to single treatment, and right from the get-go, it reminds me of peak Britpop with harmonising vocals that scream The Beatles. I have to admit I was a fan of this song from the first 30 seconds, and as it develops the single acts as an earworm getting into my brain bit by bit.
As mentioned, vocally this is incredibly strong, with dreamy guitars mixed on top of crisp cascading drums and tight bass. The breakdown of the 'spaceman-chatter' at the end left a big impression on me, they should like they've been at this for years, let alone it being their first single, The Burbs could be onto something big here.
