Back with her third single of the year is Heddy Edwards. Based in Arlington, Virginia, United States, the new cut "Dreamcast" is a massive slice of nostalgia.
When I saw the title of the track, I instantly thought of that odd grey console competing with the PlayStation 2, and it hit with a wave of nostalgia. That is exactly what this song delivers: a strong dose of late-1990s and 2000s nostalgia.
... a jangly, alt-rock nostalgia hit that hooks you fast and does not let go.
From the driving alt-rock influences on this track to the big vocals that are once again front and centre, it has a fantastic jangly tone that at times recalls the more upbeat songs by "The Cranberries" and even further back, "The Smiths".
The pre-chorus breakdown is what seals the deal for me, and once that chorus hits, I was hooked. Looking at the time, I realised we were less than one minute and twenty seconds into the song, and with under three minutes left after that, I knew I was in for a good time.
The single is also backed up by the previous two releases to create a cohesive three-track teaser of what is to come. If Heddy Edwards keeps releasing music like this, then her name is going to be heard around the world, with her lyrics sung everywhere.
