Emerging from the west coast of the USA, Seattle, WA, to be exact, is Map of the Woulds. And their new offering, "Only For Today", is a dreamy blend of Dystrace-esque guitar hooks and psychedelic riffs mixed with a lot of prog rock noises.
... Map of the Woulds crafts a mind-bending, multi-layered psychedelic alt-rock track driven by killer solos and moody vocals.
The moody vocals really help bring the track in for me, and within the first minute, I knew that I'd be checking out their previous tracks. When the chorus came in with the backing vocal tones, it really helped to bulk out the track a bit more, giving it plenty more layers for you to discover.
This has a very classic rock energy about it, with some alternative moments that will certainly stick with you long after the track has played. Around the 1:45 mark, be sure to listen for the guitar solo, as that, for me, was the nail in the coffin (the confirmation, almost, that I was going to be giving this song multiple plays).
It's a perfect brain-scratching song. It gets you thinking, it gets you discovering more layers with every play, so get on this as soon as you can.
