Single Review... Wild Beasts - Albatross

Wild Beasts, Albatross, the first single from their third album 'Smother'. This is a review of the Record Store Day release from 2011. You can hear both tracks at the bottom of the page.

Albatross:
Albatross doesn't reveal its charms instantly, preferring instead to drift in on a fairly downbeat verse before the heartbreaking chorus and that sweet falsetto voice. This song is a subtle spectacular sign of what's to come from a band seemingly nearing their peak. It is still free to download on their facebook page so hurry!

Smother:
The title track on the album and this sees the band tone it right down to a almost stripped back band. This could even be a demo for as the minimalist styling of the song (Piano and Vocals only). This is a chilling track with Hayden's vocals captivating you once again. This is why they are on course for another nomination in the Mercury Prizes for this year, just truly outstanding beyond words!
