George Ezra is a reminder to how looks can be deceiving. You would never link the fresh-faced, blonde 19 year old Bristolian with such a dark, tonal and wise voice. This mystery alone does not draw away from how natural and remarkable his sound is. Drawing influences from heroes Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, his raw and charged melodies show no signs of artifice as they barely sound different to any conversation he would undertake. The simplistic tremors from percussion and delicate finger-plucking proves the perfect accessory to his fragile but powerful vocals. Authenticity is not shy while lung-bursting passion is evident to all.
George Ezra has been picked by the BBC as an Introducing Tip for 2013 – this a self-fulfilling prophecy in itself though the gaining of airtime on national radio stations (a favourite of Radio One, 6 Music and XFM). With this great exposure, Ezra is soon to make a big impact on the UK.
Currently writing and recording his debut album; the best way to check him out is through his growing batch of songs on Youtube (even though most are live sessions) or at his intense live shows (see Live at Leeds 2013 gig review for a short preview).
