HAIM are included in the exclusive group of bands leading some kind of revolution in the music industry right now. The trio of sisters are at the forefront putting out the image of strong, independent women who can make music as brilliant as any other and my god are they doing that. Previously noticed due to their Forever EP, the Haim sisters followed that up with the singles Don't Save Me, Falling and The Wire. Having recently announced their album, Days Are Gone, due for release on September 30th – they also made one of the tracks available to buy.
Let Me Go is that track and it proves that there are just too many sides to this band. We're hearing yet another turn in sound from the band as they create a heavier, fierce ego through excruciating drumming battles, heavy guitar riffs and lyrics that give a lot but also hold back tons more. It's the perfect combination for an album preview and that's exactly what this is. Do we need to expect this for the whole of Days Are Gone? Only time will tell but is this the start of an even bigger “females do things better” campaign?
This track is more of a 4 minute jam where they compete against each other to get the most attention in it all, however, with Este now revealing more of herself and providing vocals for half of Let Me Go, it's easy to realise that each of them hold more talents than they're letting on and slowly throughout the song, they reveal that. Extracting the weak sounds for the strong, this could be the biggest – and loudest – release yet without making it a mess or a horrific downfall for the band who currently have it all. Fast-paced music, innocent vocals and a basic structure that reshapes in to a muddle of instruments appears to be the best situation for the 3 girls.
Together; Danielle, Este and Alana are developing their sound in to a stronger version of their personalities and it's only making the public appreciate them even more. We've had quite a bit of music from them but we're about to get twice as much, in one go. If Let Me Go is anything to go by, it's going to be an album to take us by storm.
