Edinburgh based Foreignfox have recently released their powerful and emotive new single "Fractions", which is the band's second tune of the year.
The intro to the tune reminds me a lot of Lonely The Brave's first album with the vocals and shimmering drums paving the way for the track and laying down a solid foundation for it to blossom. Once the guitars come in after the first minute you're welcomed into a world that sounds so vulnerable with the soaring guitars sounding like they're reaching up into the upper atmosphere.
The track doesn't stop there, it's ever-evolving minute by minute and after three and a half minutes is quite far from what we were hearing in the opening minute. If there's something we adore, it's how a band can have more than one major genre in a track, and how they can transition so easily between them all.
When "Fractions" starts the final minute we're welcomed with tumbling guitars that are just screaming out mid 00's indie, it's a mix between Muse, Bloc Party, and Editors all in one.
The band has easily made a solid following for themselves, mainly down to the singles they've previously released but also with the love they've received from BBC Radio Scotland, and multiple festivals and shows such as T in the Park, St Lukes All Dayer, and XpoNorth. You NEED to keep an eye on these lot, mesmerising, soaring, and atmospheric all wrapped in one epic track - we just love it.
