Hailing from North London the singer-songwriter common goldfish (known as Jonty to his pals) has dropped his baggy new single, "I Don't Feel Today". You'd be somewhat forgiven to think that the musician was based out of Manchester as the vibes it gives off reminds us of The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, otherwise known as two of the best 'Madchester' acts of the late 80s and early 90s.
"I Don't Feel Today" for me is what a 90s Britpop revival track should sound like, but with a modern twist and smooth production.
"I Don't Feel Today" is just a tickle over four minutes of pure nostalgia, it kicks off with a wonderfully bold piano with boxy drums and thick as anything bass setting the tone. The track then evolves before your ears as a more high-hat and skittering drumbeat proceeds elevating the BPM of the track so you can get your body popping to the many beats.
Vocally this reminds me of Ian Brown (in The Stone Roses and defiantly not as a solo artist...) in his prime with the deep slightly nasal tones of Liam Gallagher for good measure. "I Don't Feel Today" for me is what a 90s Britpop revival track should sound like, but with a modern twist and smooth production.
With over 15k plays on Spotify on every single so far I feel like that common goldfish can be a 'big fish' on the scene in London - watch this space.
