Coming out of Atlanta, GA is Maiz and recently they have revealed their latest track, "Overbearing", more specifically the 'Stripped' version, but after listening to both we felt they both needed to share the limelight together.
... 'stripped' or not "Overbearing" is stunning, and it's certainly a track you need to listen to.
The 'original' version is doused with plenty of electronic sounds, with a slight addition of auto-tuned vocals to top it off. The track is a very dreamy affair with plenty of warm synth tones and keys being the main attraction. The drumbeat on the track takes me back to the 2000s with its R&B-sounding kicks, but with smooth production values that easily elevate the track further.
The newer track as mentioned is the stripped-back version, which offers the listener an insight into what Maiz might sound like if they ditched the plugged-in instruments. The obvious thing is the synths and drums are gone, but have been replaced by a soul-touching piano tone (and of course her vocals). The runtime is the same but if you're looking for a vocally strong song to listen to at night then this is the one.
In short, 'stripped' or not "Overbearing" is stunning, and it's certainly a track you need to listen to - both versions!
