sad films release their jangly debut EP, "Exchange Pleasantries"

Manchester-based singer-songwriter, sad films, just last month released his jangly debut EP, "Exchange Pleasantries". The EP is five tracks strong with a collection of new cuts and a couple of previous singles.

Dan Lucas - aka sad films - has put together a great release here, and it honestly feels like it's strong right from the outset with "past Tense" offering the listener soaring guitars, jangly tones and vocals that can rival any other act in the dream-pop and surf genre.

Moving into the core of the EP we have "S.O.S.", which is more of a synth-heavy track that's a bit more subdued compared to the first track, it's still got an upbeat chorus with the percussion giving me memories of LCD Soundsystem. After that track comes "Piggy", not my personal fave on the release as I tend to go for more upbeat kind of tracks, but it's great to see sad films delve into more of an acoustic sound to showcase his range to those who are listening if anything a great way to break-up the release

The final two tracks kick off with his frantic and nostalgic sounding "Future Tense", by far my highlight of the track as the percussion is incredibly fast, and vocals are festival-ready much like the tones of Circa Waves, and those jangly guitar tones are back with the addition of some absolutely screamers too!

The whole EP closes on a six-minute epic which has a steady build-up before bursting into life like one of those Radiohead tracks in the 2000s, and to be honest the way this final track ends it gave me a lingering taste of wanting more.
