Me & Melancholy from Stockholm has recently shared their new cover album, "Under Cover, Part 2", obviously following 'Part 1' with it's three tracks earlier on in the year - which featured a cover of The Smiths in it.
A nostalgic-sounding collection of some all-time Indie and Alternative classics.
Usually, I don't review such albums, but when I saw that there was a cover of "This Modern Love" by Bloc Party in there I was committed. The track is by far one of my favourite tracks in the world, so to hear it given a synth-pop makeover was a delight, and the track was a great gateway into the sounds of Me & Melancholy (and of course the album).
Following that track is a solid cover of New Order's "Run", with the bass seemingly sounding as good as the original, and once again the big synth-pop flavour is massive on this with some ethereal keys acting as something new for those older fans.
If you're an alternative kind of leaning person who loves the sound of Bloc Party and New Order there's a chance you also delve into the sounds of Radiohead, and there's a lovely laid-back version of "Fake Plastic Trees" on here too with boy/girl vocals giving it a new angle.
The track "Lovesong" by The Cure rounds out the album, and what the band does here is keep that dark edge of the original but spins in a web of synths, and dreamy sounds and yet seemingly keeping that late 80's sound.
I guess the Tl;dr of this is if you're an Indie fan then you're going to love the new takes of some absolute classics! A very solid 8/10 for the tracks we highlighted! A nostalgic-sounding collection of some all-time Indie and Alternative classics.
