Coming out of Apulia in Southern Italy is Francesca Pichierri with her brand new single, "Il Nemico Dentro". Right from the get-go it's clear to hear this this is an Italian track (I mean look at the title), but even though I lack knowledge in the Italian language I can easily hear that this is a soulful and emotive track.
Speaking about the track she mentions - "It's an emotionally charged track that delves deep into the themes of mortality and fragility of the body and it is inspired by my mother’s battle with ovarian cancer."
... so powerful, mesmerising and evocative.
"Il Nemico Dentro" (or "The Enemy Within" in English) for me brings back memories of the early London Grammar tracks, as the song is heavy on the vocals that soar above the instrumentation, and is all wrapped up in this glorious sheen.
The guitars, sweeping keyboard tones and electronic noises that swirl around on this really help bring Francesca's to life, and it's when you enter the halfway point you'll feel connected to the track. If this song was representing Italy in Eurovision I can see it winning the whole thing as it's so powerful, mesmerising and evocative.
