Hailing out of Cincinnati is signer-songwriter Noah Smith, and just two days ago saw him reveal his heartwarming new EP, "Cavaliers into Cadillacs". The release comes off the back of his 'Harmony Hill Sessions' singles, and we feel like this bold new release is going to be even more viral than his 2023 single, "Way Back".
The sounds that are on "Cavaliers into Cadillacs" range from folk-inspired violins to bold and atmospheric guitar sounds that feel like they belong on a Foo Fighters ballad.
Noah's vocals are on full display here, which is evident right from the get-go as "Don't Break My Fall" showcases his range from soft and subtle whispers to a truly emotive side. I felt like this was the perfect opener, as it shows off all of the sounds that have got Noah to where he is today.
The next couple of tracks are also a pure delight to my ear, "The Skinny Pedal On My Right" is a more stripped-back affair, and gives listeners a slightly more roots sound to get stuck in with. Vocally it's very direct and sounds as good as the likes of Tyler Childers with how warm and honest they sound. "Second Heartbreak" is more of a ballad than the previous tunes, and once again gives the listener plenty of time with Noah's vocal tones, but this time there's a stripped-back percussive section and a soaring guitar tone chiming away throughout, a perfect centrepiece for any release!
As soon as I headed into the final three tracks it was more or less confirmation for me that I was going to be having his music on repeat for the next hour or two, "Right Here With You" is a vibrant cut with a bold violin and some addictive guitars that even Indie-Rock fans will be able to get into in an instant, "How The Hell Am I Still Alive" is a throwback track for me with some 90s vibes flowing through it. The EP closes out on "Diamonds In The Rough", and to be honest this track title could be perfect for the release too, as the whole EP feels like an absolute hidden gem amongst an ocean of new music, a perfect closer for any release or live show as it'll leave you wanting more.
Out of 10: 9.5/10
A phenomenal EP that has plenty going for it, from soaring strings to indie-rock tones via blues and roots tones - a must-have for anyone who loves music!
