With literally millions of plays on their music, it's safe to say that when we first heard The Thing With Feathers we knew they were going to be a big deal, and recently the band have shared their live album "Ready to Burn - Live at Exit/In".
For bands to release such albums these days is a mark of something even bigger that'll be coming over the horizon, usually a full-blown album - with this acting as a huge teaser for their fanbase to get their teeth stuck into while they wait for the next big thing to drop.
One thing I admire on this live album is that you can feel the energy that the band has, and how they embrace the screaming crowd throughout, from the opening belter of the tune "Something Wrong" right up until the anthemic "Waste My Revenge".
The release is smattered with tunes from their back-catalogue, with my personal highlight of the release is "Golden", even though it came out in 2023 the way they build up the song is fantastic, and I'm sure if I was in the crowd it would be a highlight for me too, especially when the vocals come in and the intimate venue seemingly is filled with so much atmosphere that you'd think you're in an arena.
The energy on "Golden" is one to savour too, and when the very hard-rock 80s-sounding guitar solo opens up "Can You See Me" you'll then know why the band is where they are, they cater for their fans and can easily make their tunes sound like they do in the studio - quite the achievement as a lot of indie bands tend to hide behind production sometimes.
Fair play for them to add in a proper oldie (by their standards) too, the lead track off their debut EP was given a performance too, which could've been a belter of an opener. But regardless of that the whole release was a great refresher for me and for anyone who's heard a few of their tracks, and gives you a great insight into what the band are capable of in the live setting.
The Thing With Feathers - "Ready to Burn - Live at Exit/In"
Out of 10: 9/10
A great example of what the band is all about, think of it as a 'Greatest Hits: Live' type of release with all killer no filter-type tunes.
