The scene down in the Isle of Wight seems to be constantly getting better over the recent years, and when I went to Bestival, they had a big crop of local bands playing the smaller tents. One of those bands that are emerging out of the island is 5 Degrees North, and the band has recently dropped their chunky new tune, "Julie Anne".
... a grungy, riff-heavy anthem with soaring vocals and enough firepower to rival Royal Blood at full throttle.
If you're a fan of Royal Blood and Blood Red Shoes, then you'll be a fan of this from the outset. As soon as you press play on this for the first time, you'll find out why they're hyped. Stonking big guitars open it up, and the slight grunge undertone we heard gave it that dark aura. Soaring guitars that can fit into any indie band's tune help to give it more dimension, making sure they don't leave anyone behind, ensuring they're a fan from the first play.
Vocally, what we have is huge too, part Matt Bellamy and part Matt Thomson (The Amazons), with tones that can easily carry over thousands of festivalgoers, with plenty of atmosphere thanks to the backing vocals too.
