Based out of Cardiff in Wales is Daddy Drwg (the solo project of Richard Proctor) with the new offering, "Wise Guys". This is his first release since 2024's "A Tree Called Happy" and is a great step in the right direction if you ask me.
... a soaring, whistle-hooked indie rock gem that takes aim at toxic masculinity with charm, bite, and acoustic-tinged swagger.
Right from the start, you've got this delicate sound warming up your ears, and before the track bursts into life around the one-minute mark, you'll be able to hear what the track is all centred around. The topic of choice here is toxic masculinity, which is something that I'm sure everyone can be on board with, especially how it can really affect people.
The catchy whistling hooks on the song really grabbed my attention, and when combined with the acoustic-leaning sounds that remind me of the 90s, it felt to me like a solid indie-rock song with a somewhat acoustic underpinning. Add in some great effects on the guitars to give them that soaring flair, and the track is not far from an earworm.
