Scranton, Pennsylvania is home to University Drive, and the band has recently released their new EP, "First Stage Separation". The release is six tracks long and takes you on a 27-minute ride of their sound.
... a fearless six-track EP fusing grunge grit, alt-rock power, and shoegaze moodiness.
The opener is a great example of their diversity, as it sounds like Nirvana mixed with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, as it's got angsty, grunge-like vocals and vibrant basslines.
The EP is a fearless affair with some solid deep cuts like "Hollow Sweetness", which to me is the best cut on the release, showing off their darker and moodier side, and "Decades Lost" which is a cut that reminds me a lot of the shoegaze genre blended with post-punk rawness and that aforementioned deep grunge sound.
The final cut is one to be taken at full force, with it clocking in at nearly eight minutes long; it's a fantastic blend of punchy post-punk-revival guitars and frantic percussion, giving you a great long-lasting impression - and maybe a taste of what's to come in future releases.
