"Heddy Edwards" shares her debut EP, "The Other Side of Hell is a Heaven So Delicate". The captivating 5-track release is comprised of her previous four singles, mixed with a new cut titled "Fever, Can Believe It".
... a captivating and deeply personal indie-pop debut packed with dreamy nostalgia, cinematic flair, and standout songwriting.
The whole 5-track release is less of an EP, shall we say, and more of a celebration of her music and her journey to where she is right now. It's a quintet of sensational indie-pop music that is going to really put her name in front of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people.
With "Black Tunnel" opening the EP, it is a fantastic throwback track with a dreamy undertone, shortly followed by the song "The Other Side of the Town", which is more of a bold, cinematic, gothic-tinted anthem. When I first heard that song, I honestly thought it was something that people who listen to the likes of Lana Del Rey and BANKS would love. It turns out, after tens of thousands of plays, I think I might have been right.
"Cinematic Vision" is the centrepiece of the EP, once again bringing nostalgic 2000s vibes mixed with her ethereal vocals and those indie-pop melodies that have got her to where she is today. It's more of an acoustically driven song and leads perfectly into the fourth track. This new track is the most relaxing cut from the EP, and it certainly shows off her vocal tones in a brighter light, laid upon bass tones and stripped-back instrumentation. Watch out for the explosion after the halfway point, as it becomes classic Heddy Edwards: massive instrumentation mixed with her incredible voice.
With the EP rounding out on the latest single, "Dreamcast", you are left with this overwhelming sense of an artist who sounds like she's arrived. This final offering gives you a taste of alt-rock nostalgia with some jangly tones and is certainly going to perk the ears of anyone who has got this far into the EP. With that said, this EP is nothing short of sensational. A very, very strong 9 out of 10.
