Hailing from Cranbrook, England, recording collective The Friends of Norman Havelock deliver authentic alt-country grit on their single "Too Close To Call".
... soulful, retro-tinged alt-country gem anchored by commanding vocals and rich, atmospheric textures.
The song features Savannah Gardner on vocals, and her commanding tones on this are one of the main reasons I stuck around for the track on the first play.
The raw and authentic sounds remind me of some more soulful artists, but with the slight Americana and alt-country sounds in this echoing with a reverbing retro guitar, it felt like a conglomeration of a few sub-genres that I absolutely adore. When this track really got going I was honestly at home.
The twinkling piano keys dodged throughout the soothing synth tones hidden in the background, and the underpinning backing vocals really brought this track to life for me.
This is the lead single from the upcoming EP titled "Country of Pursuits" and is a perfect gateway track to their sound, so be sure to listen to these guys as soon as you can.
