Album Review... Los Campesinos! - Hello Sadness

Los Campesinos! have got round to releasing their 4th album in 5 years, and it doesn't seem releasing a lot of material in a short space of time has effected the quality of the tracks, no sir, not one bit! From the opening track 'By Your Hand' you're thrown back to the début album, with it's upbeat layered multi vocal choruses. 'Hello Sadness' was recorded in the beautiful rural Spain in spring 2011, the idyllic setting was tempered by frontman Gareth dealing with a recent breakup, which you can clearly hear throughout the album.

At just ten songs and 40 minutes, 'Hello Sadness is possibly the first Los Campesinos! album that sounds lean, produced the heck out of and polished. The youngsters that made début with such anthems as 'You! Me! Dancing!' are sadly long gone. But think of this, every band grows and matures, and Los Campesinos! are no exception and I'd even go as far as saying that this is their strongest album to date!
