Introducing... Nico Cara

'Precocious' is the first word that comes to mind when we consider 18 year-old Nico Cara’s debut offering ‘A Fish Hooked On’. There is a fearlessness here perhaps informed by youth (although how many times did we hear that considered in the context of England this summer… and where did that leave us?) but the songwriting ability and integrity here lies beyond his tender years.

Immediately reminiscent of ‘OK Computer’-era Radiohead, slick acoustic riffs work their way up into a frenzied tension that is at last extravasated in a cauldron of distortion and delay, bound together by Cara’s distinctively British vocal that shares a narrative tone not too far displaced from The 1975’s Matt Healy. ‘A Fish Hooked On’ is an audacious and daring piece of composition, it’s fresh and abrasive, and keen to turn heads. If this is just this the beginning, we’re excited to see where Nico goes next.
