At the backend of July saw the brilliantly named Lemon Sex Cake drop their vibrant new single, "Rolling Block Rifle". The tune is just their second-ever release as a duo, but when you lay your ears upon this you'd have thought they'd have already toured all over the UK with their infectious tones.
... it's a proper foot-stomper of a song!
The sound from the outset is distinctly retro, with a thick 80s synth-pop beat mixed with edgy guitar hooks. It's very danceable and with some slight electronic effects on the vocals, it gave me memories of Digitalism and how they infuse electronics with rock beats.
The percussion on this is wonderful with a tempo that's not too aggressive but will go down well in a live setting, and even when you're listening at home - it's a proper foot-stomper of a song!
