Coming out of Portland in Oregon, it's Ceremony Shadows, and just a couple of days ago saw the trip reveal their new single, "Prey". The single is already their second of the year, with it following on from a very successful 2024 that saw them release seven tracks.
... dark, haunting synth-driven track with scorched guitars and post-punk vibes.
Right off the bat, it's a dark tune with a haunting synth pulsating away in the intro, and once the vocals come in it's possibly one of the darkest-sounding singles we've heard for a while.
A sticky synth tone mixed with scorched guitars sets the tone for the whole track and when you add in some post-punk tones to the mix, it becomes a somewhat catchy tune. The pace really kicked up when the male vocals came in, which was a nice change of pace.
Safe to say that Ceremony Shadows have really nailed down the 'dark' genres here; it's certainly going to be worth the listen if you like the more haunting sounds that the alt-rock scene has to offer - so hurry up and get stuck in!
