Based out of Nottingham in England is five-piece Spiral Orbit recently revealed their strong new track titled "Isolation Zone". The new cut from the band is their second of the year, and the intro alone was enough for me to give the song a chance, as it reminds me a lot of New Order and The Killers, especially when the synths come in after a few seconds. ... a synth-charged, '80s-inspired rock anthem that turns pandemic uncertainty into an uplifting, high-energy payoff. With the aforementioned similarities to New Order, this track really does have a big late '80s synth-rock feel to it, with the vocal hooks also sounding like they have been cherry-picked from that era. Add in some more '70s glam rock-sounding synths and what you have here is a track that is incredibly nostalgic and yet feels as fresh as anything else out in the world right now. Coming out of Ypsilanti, Michigan, is the alternative rock outfit TV Blackout. The band's new single is titled "Eyes Burn Red", and this is the lead single off their debut album titled "Loss of Control". ... a thrilling, gritty opener packing '90s grunge guitars, punchy post-punk drive, and the brooding swagger of Fontaines D.C. It is quite the opening track for an album, as it kicks off with a rush of '90s indie rock guitars mixed with some punchy drum beats and a tone that reminds me of the early days of the post-punk revival scene in the UK. The intro is less than 30 seconds long, but it certainly got me hooked from the first play. As soon as the vocals started, I knew that I would be investing a lot of time in them. The intro is very melancholic, with dreamy echoing vocals, before the track kicks into a drum and bass rhythm around the 1:20 mark. As soon as that comes, it honestly feels like a different song. It goes from being ethereal and dreamy to high-energy workout music that will take you by surprise on the first listen. This was originally a B-side on one of their 1992 singles and has since been remixed by producer Harry Kook to be given a new lease of life. It's got that dirty undertone with plenty of dark moods flowing about it that reminds me somewhat of The Prodigy. What I find remarkable here is that a band with a song that is 34 years old has had it reimagined for modern times. Hailing from London, England, indie-folk singer-songwriter James Crowley has recently delivered his most expansive work yet with the "Imprint" EP. The four-song strong EP is led by the track "Copilot", which is a very warm offering that reminded me of Ben Howard from the first play, but adds some more scattered beats and more experimental sounds that the likes of Radiohead are very much famous for. What you have here is an absolute kaleidoscope of genres that will just fill your ears up with joy. ... an expansive, warm, and beautifully crafted EP blending Ben Howard-style indie folk with experimental, haunting soundscapes. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, independent dark-pop artist Chelle today dropped her vibrant new pop song "Same Blue Sky" Recorded at Bluebird Studios with producer Declan Lonergan, the track has a serious drive to it and right from the outset you have her vocals mixed with this sexy bassline and finger-clicking percussion. ... an irresistible, 1980s-tinted dark-pop gem boasting a slick bassline, vibrant hooks, and soaring vocals. As soon as the track starts to develop you get a saucy guitar hook, followed by a burst of anthemic sounds just before the 1-minute mark. Honestly within the first minute, I think I was hooked on the song. There is a slight 1980s feel to this with how organic it sounds and how there are not too many effects dropped all over it. One thing that hit me from the get-go was how the moody guitar gripped my ears for the opening 10 seconds or so. Once those moody vocals came in, I was captivated - hooked, line and sinker, if you will. ... a gritty, post-punk-infused track that blends psychedelic textures with a moody haze built for late-night festival sets.
