[INTERVIEW] with...Oranje

Oranje.

Having just released their debut EP 'Bitter Sweet', It's All Indie caught up with the Ipswich based, alternative four-piece, Oranje, to see how they're getting on.

Hello Oranje! Thanks for chatting with It’s All Indie, how did the band form?

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us, we really appreciate it. Oranje started in college where we were put together to do a set for a live event. We all gelled really well and that must've come across on stage because people loved it! Everyone who saw it told us to do Battle of The Bands so we did and we won! From then on Oranje was alive and kicking!

Your debut EP, ’Bittersweet,’ has just released and shows a lot of potential for the band, how does it feel to finally have it out in the world? Must have been a fun EP to record.

We're really proud of this EP, it took us a while to get it all sorted but to finally have it out and to have people listening to it is an amazing feeling. Something we're not quite used to !! We all had great fun recording the EP, although our hearts are in live gigs we really love being in a studio environment, having the opportunity to make our songs sound as amazing as possible is truly something special

Where did the band’s name come from?

We were just messing about in rehearsal and a bit of daydreaming combined with an Orange amp somehow ended up in the band's name 'Oranje'.

Can you tell us one quirky fact about each band member?

Dez (Vox and Guitar): Was on Britain's Got Talent in 2011

Duncan (Guitar): Doesn't like crisps

Elle (Bass): Has a Bart Simpson tattoo

James (Drums): Makes a mean brew - "Might look like my nan's left leg but it'll probably taste alright"

What bands or artists influence Oranje?

As a whole, the band's influences come from a range of artists from Foo Fighters, The Clash, Avril Lavigne and many others. Dez's lyrical influences come from (To name a few) Lana Del Rey, Alvvays and Joni Mitchell.

Finally, what’s next for the band?

We're just seeing where things go from now, hopefully gigging as much as possible in 2018 and getting a couple of tunes out there! We're just going with the flow of things and hoping to build our fan base as much as possible.
