Today is the day that Deer Park Avenue drop their new album, "Crucible", with it being the third long instalment that the Munich-based duo has released since they formed. We've had the band featured on our site a few times, see here, and when we heard that they had an album coming out this year we were excited to hear what they've been up to.
"Cave" is a very bold opening track with an equally bold deep guitar tone that will shake you and wake you. As the anthemic track edges ever so closer to the chorus a sharp rise in the tempo comes with the chorus seemingly taking the listener on a real rollercoaster ride - what a way to kick things off.
The next cut, "Crucible", is more of a laid-back tune compared to the first, but it's till up there with the very best that the band is known for. The swagger-filled "Shut Me Out" bleeds perfectly well into "Strut" as they both sit perfectly in that 'turn it up' realm.
The core of the album is filled with a smattering of belters, from the upbeat and pop-leaning "Queen of Disaster" to the nostalgic tones of "Dance" that reminded us a bit of Weezer. The ballad of the release is "Moon River Flow" and it showcases how gentle and tender they can be, with a gorgeous set of strings adorning the track.
The final four tracks all sound unique to one another, with "Pink Champagne" sounding almost like a Wolf Alice track, to the scuzzy "Prom Night" and the somewhat Britpop/Punk "Outta Here". As we listen to the final track we can't help but feel like the whole release is covered with stunning vocals and a whole host of sounds that showcases their prowess. "Voices" is probably the most 'alt' track of the lot with a strong synth opening it up, but once more with those glorious vocals and a slick bassline being there it's more than just a closer, it's a perfect track to remember the whole release on.
