Debut singles are one of our all time favourite types of tracks, the whole 'no expectation' behind those tracks means that it's unapologetically the artist (with no outside influence). So, heading into Empty Pinata's debut single, "I Have A Huge Crush On Doja Cat", I was really surprised with how dreamy and vibrant it was.
... a dreamy, vibrant burst of indie pop, blending shoegaze and jangly guitars into a delightful haze
It's a far cry from the sounds that Doja Cat is known for let's say, and it's more akin to the sound of JAWS, Alvvays and in parts even some dreamy shoegaze elements for added zip.
The whole pacing is tremendous, with frantic licks of guitar balanced off with dreamy licks of hazy guitar, all with a smooth bassline and stunning vocals. It's quite simply a delightful dream-pop track, and considering this is their debut I feel that Empty Pinata could go on to do big things.[
