Hailing from Auburn in Maine is The Nightbirds, and earlier this month it saw the trio deliver a ferocious statement with their album, "ART." The whole LP was recorded at Maine’s Ashpool Studios, with the basement-born project thriving on tension, texture, and shedloads of momentum.
... a tension-soaked blast of art-rock grit, post-punk urgency, and sludge-tinged swagger that’s as addictive as it is relentless.
The album is a solid example of blending art-rock sounds with edgy garage-rock grit, post-punk urgency, and flashes of sludge sounds that brought back some bands I loved in the late 90s when I was sifting through the cassette tapes in my local store.
I'd have to say that the lead track from the album, "2000 Miles", is actually a great start for the release, with other tracks such as "WOOF" showcasing their more alt side, along with the seven-minute epic, "Ally", giving off some of those chilled Red Hot Chilli Peppers vibes.
A great example of what the whole album is about would have to be "FATHER"; it's fast, full of gritty vocals, a retro-tint to it, with a frantic percussion to back it all up. The whole release is summed up on the last track, and to be honest, once you're deep into track 10, you'll probably be considering a second play as it's got quite the addictive feel to it.
Considering this is their debut release (on Spotify at least), I can easily see lots of new fans flocking to this album in their thousands. Be sure to keep an eye on them, as they're surely going to be a rising name on the Maine music scene.
