Rising singer-songwriter Maisyn has today unveiled her upbeat new indie-pop tinted single "Better Being Hopeless", and the single acts as her third ever release. If you draw some comparisons to HAIM then the main reason would be that both artists share a producer/engineer, in the form of Joey Messine-Doerning.
Maisyn is just one of many quality acts coming out of California, but with "Better Being Hopeless" it sounds like she's rising above the other indie-pop acts.
Now her vocals are just as sweet as the trio in HAIM, maybe even more, but with some soul and country vibes added in for good measure. The guitar work on the track has hazy elements, grunge-sounding tones, and is all backed up with a ticking drumbeat.
She's landed previous tracks into Spotify editorial playlists - almost confirming that she's catching the eyes of the labels already - via the 'Fresh Finds: Pop' playlist, alongside big playlists from the lovely people at EARMILK.
The new track is a sign of things to come, with crisp production, warm vocals, and guitar tones with a real upbeat bite to it. Maisyn is just one of many quality acts coming out of California, but with "Better Being Hopeless" it sounds like she's rising above the other indie-pop acts.
