Coming out of a rather strong scene in New York is Deja Dead, and they are not hanging about with their expansive new single. "Snapshots" sounds like an organ has been given an exorcism; it's huge and unapologetically everywhere.
... a genre-blurring alt-rock epic with exorcised organ riffs, 90s rap beats, and a colossal final crescendo.
Once the intro passes, you get some chatter on the song before it drops into a massive 90s rap beat mixed in with some dynamic alt-rock licks of guitar and heavy bass. You really have to give it to Deja Dead for blending in several genres into one song and making it sound so cohesive, not alienating any new listeners, it seems, but rather gripping their attention from the get-go.
Written during personal upheaval, the track traces chaos to clarity, and the spoken-word moments really hit home as it gave me big nostalgic vibes - yes, I'm older than I think. Just be sure to turn it up in the final third, as it's the most unexpected crescendo we've heard in a long time!
